Why do people give thumbs down for opinions?

It’s ignorant, I was asked my favorite show which is a opinion answer I said Prison Break and got a thumbs down, wtf? I was asked my favorite color I said green, thumbs down? I was asked my favorite artiest I said Train, Pat Monahan… and got a thumbs down, when asked for a opinion why do people get a thumbs down for there answer?
